Hey, just thinking about ideas to improve KYLS - and ran across a game in my Challenge Day book - barnyard animals. To divide up the AWAY teams and let them connect to their leaders - they would be the ducks, roosters, sheep, even tiggers, etc. The teen leaders would call out what they are and make their barnyard noise, showing how they are going to link up arms with everyone else who is quacking for instance. Then its very noisy as everyone starts making their barnyard noise and searching for each other to link up arms and find their team. Cute, huh? Nice and chaotic with lots of fun noises! Sounds like a KYLS activity to me!
Also, adult sponsors always bring up concerns about whether or not the teen leaders are encouraging the youth teams to plan actions outside of their abilities, experience or resources. They also wish they had a place to get coffee. How about a coffee bar on Tuesday morning to check in with their teen and adult leaders, (without youth), just to have some private conversation about the expected direction and scope of the action plan?
Lastly, if you are able to come to our Finding Leadership in Teens conference on Aug 20 and 21st, we would love to have you! Its at Camp Wood in the Flint Hills. www.chasecountydrugfreeactionteam.org
